Hi, welcome to Wealth for your Life! I’m B., a 40-something Canadian military wife who achieved financial independence by learning how to:

  • Invest on my own through low-cost broad-based index funds
  • Keep a budget
  • Live a minimalistic yet fulfilling life

I did all this because I was in love with my husband Victor, who happens to be in the Canadian military. I knew that military families move around a lot, and if our relationship was going to work long term, I would need to build my own nest egg. So, I started reading everything I could get my hands on about the stock market. I learned how to invest in low-cost Vanguard index funds. For the first time in my shopaholic life, I kept a budget and dabbled in minimalism. What followed was a life-changing decade of wealth-building, inner peace and finally, the opportunity to live with my husband full time while my portfolio supports me.

And that’s what building wealth for your life is about. It’s about having opportunities to live life on your terms, whether it’s retiring early, taking that trip or buying that dream home. It’s also a fun play on words. Instead of saying ‘run for your life!’, I say ‘wealth for your life!’, because getting your financial house in order can be just as vital to your life as running from an avalanche. It can mean the difference between having to take a soul-crushing job vs. having time to focus on your health. Or enjoying a comfortable retirement vs. eating cat food in our elder years. In our debt-laden consumerist society we don’t often treat money emergencies with enough urgency. But I personally think ‘wealth for your life!’ should be hollered from rooftops.

Okay, off my soapbox…If you’ve made it this far and you are interested in reading my story about how and why I discovered financial independence, including actionable steps that you can take to invest in the stock market, keep a budget and learn from my real estate mistakes, I would love it if you took a read through the Intro and 18 chapters in Financial Independence, a Love Story. If you would like to follow my ongoing musings where I discuss the stock market and other fun ideas for wealth-building, you can pop on over to my Blog section. This is my way of paying forward the life-changing guidance I received from the F.I.R.E. (Financial Independence Retire Early) community.

I am really happy that you’re here. Thank you. I sincerely hope my blog helps you build wealth for your own life and opens up opportunities that you always dreamed of. I am looking forward to taking this journey together.

Peace and love,

B.
